Don the Handyman: Woodworking Services

1. How do I know you will do a good job?
I am a qualified plumber and I take great pride in my work. I only undertake jobs when I know I have the skills and experience to do them well. I will be pleased to provide references if required.

2. Do you charge for quotes?
No I do not! I appreciate that my customers like to know exactly what they will be paying, particularly for larger jobs. In most instances I will visit you first to accurately assess the job, and send you a detailed quotation. Sometimes with small jobs this isn't practical, but I will give you a price before I start work.

3. How much do you charge?
I always send you a quotation (or agree a price if a small job) before carrying out the work. I charge a very fair price for a professional job. Call me for more details.

4. What happens if you find a problem after you've started work?
Sometimes I come across an unforeseen problem once I've started work. For example, damp plaster walls underneath old tiling. Usually I can resolve these problems, but it can involve extra cost to you. I will ALWAYS contact you for your authorisation before I carry out any additional work.

5. Do you supply materials?
I am happy to use your own materials. For larger jobs, I prefer to obtain the materials myself. This is so I have everything to hand and everything is suitable. My suppliers give me a good deal, which is reflected in my quotations!

6. Will I have to wait in all day for you to arrive?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! I pride myself on my reliability. I will arrange a mutually convenient time to call and will be there when I say I will.

7. Will you have all the necessary tools and parts with you?
If I have visited you in advance to assess the job, I won't be wasting time by disappearing halfway through. Many of my customers email me a list of jobs beforehand so I have a good idea of what's required. It's rare that I need to get anything extra, but I have a good relationship with my suppliers so any downtime is minimised.

8. What about tidying up?
I appreciate that this is your home and not a building site. I use dust sheets and will vacuum up any mess. In addition, I will remove all rubbish and endeavour to leave your home as I found it.

9. Can you look at my boiler?
No, I am not GAS SAFE registered, so I cannot work with gas.

10. How and when do I pay?
I will email or post an invoice to you. Please pay me when you are completely satisfied with my work. As I am a small business, prompt payment is always appreciated.

11. Why just a mobile number?
Nothing dodgy - my wife often works nights. It's more than my life's worth to wake her up. Please leave a message on my mobile, and if I can't answer, I'll get back to you ASAP. My home address is Larchwood, 21 Hazlemere Road, Penn.

12. Are you insured?
Yes, I am fully insured. I have Public Liability Insurance of £1 million.
